BADMINTON CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. At the annual meeting of the above club on Tuesday there was a good attendance. Mr W. J. Craik presided. The officers for the coming year were elected as under: President, Mr W. J. Craik; secretary, Mr F. I. Miller; treasurer, R. Goodall; who will also comprise the match committee; general committee, officers and all members. Subscriptions were fixed at: Men 27s 6d, and ladies 17s 6d. It was decided to affiliate with the Waikato Badminton Sub Association, and the opening night was fixed for Thursday, April 30th. The treasurer reported the financial position to be satisfactory. Mr Craik was appointed delegate to the Waikato Badminton Association.

Coming third in the cup competition last season, the club commences its new season with all its past members who, profiting from last year's experience in plenty of competition play, should put up a good showing this year. A large membership already points to the club having at least two teams in the competition. There are several new members already enrolled. That, this bright game is enjoying increased popularity in New Zealand is exemplified in the fact that Hamilton clubs have had to follow the suit of Auckland in restricting their memberships for the 1936 season.

Recognised to be the world’s finest exponent of the game, J. F. Devlin will tour New Zealand during the coming season to give exhibition matches with New Zealand's best players and to coach players. Apart from doubles and combined doubles successes, he has won the All England singles championship, recognised to be the "Wimbledon” of badminton, on no fewer than six occasions. He will stay three days in Hamilton giving coaching lessons. Devlin will also give an exhibition in the Bledisloe Hall, together with' several other expert players.
