WAIPA RACING CLUB

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. PROGRAMME FOR RACE MEETING ’ CRITICISED. A meeting of the committee of the Waipa Racing Club was held on Tuesday evening, and in the unavoidable absence ot Mr J. T. Young, Mr F. Quin was voted to the chair. Also present were Messrs M. H. Tims, J. P. O'Sullivan, A. Bond, T. G. Martin, A. H. Storey, M. McNaii, S. A. Empson, H. Kay, and the assistant secretary, Mr L. A. Johnston.

The secretary reported that negotiations h'ad been conducted for paying off a mortgage of £lOOO on the club’s property in the borough. Steps were now being taken to. complete the negotiations. It was reported that after submitting the draft programme for the special race meeting on May 16th the Auckland District Committee had called attention to one or two necessary alterations. The programme had then been amended by the special Programme Committee to meet the requirements, and the programme was approved. Mr Tims amplified this report, and said he thought the amended programme would prove satisfactory to tlie owners and general public, except that there was only one open race provided for—the Woodstock Stakes Handicap of ten furlongs and 100 yards. He regretted that the final event of the day, the Hairini Handicap, of one mile, had not been an open race. It was, however, too late now to make any alteration. The programme, as amended, was confirmed.

Mr J. W. Cathro, Takanlni, wrote, on behalf of an anonymous donor, offering a canteen of cutlery to be given to the trainer of the winner of the W. G. Park Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase at the forthcoming meeting.— The offer was gladly accepted.

An offer to install a totalisator indicator for the coming meeting was received from Indicators, Ltd., but it was decided to do without it this time.

The tender of Haines and Co. for the sole catering rights was accepted, and the booth privileges were let to Mr W. Montgomery. It was decided to engage Dixon's public address system for the meeting. Win and place will be the system of totalisator investments for the meetini. It was decided to apply for Saturday, December 12th, as the date for the ordinary annual race meeting of the club.

The following new members were elected: W. B. Walker, Kihikihi; G. W. Johnson, Hairini; G. Bridge, Te Awamutu; M. Bridge, Te Awamutu; ,W. H. Parrish, Te Awamutu; H. J. Webber, Paterangi Road; S. R. Lissington, Kio Kio; H. G. Llssington, Kio Kio; H. E. O’Connor, Kihikihi Road; M. Oldbury, Kawhia. Mr Quin gave notice to alter the name of the club from Waipa Racing Club to Te Awamutu Racing Club. The mover said the matter could be discussed at next month’s meeting, when he would bring forward his arguments in favour of the change. It was decided to request the totalisator management to staff all the available pay-out windows. The Course Committee reported having re-arranged the rooms upstairs in the stewards’ stand, to provide for the growing needs of the club, including additional electric lights. •- Mr Tims reported that several improvements have been effected to both stands, including the glassing of the fend of the main stand, in case of wet weather, and a Considerable amount of felting of the floors. Arrangements had been made also for providing improved brush hurdles. It was decided to hold a working bee at the course before the race meeting.
