AUSTRALIAN SILVER BAND The playing of the Australian silver band has recently been likened to a symphony orchestra —a huge organ —both the very opposite of the usually accepted version of the “brass” band. The silver band is composed of the leading soloists of Australia, conducted by one of the world’s leading conductors, the result being a combination such as we have never heard before. He is the master musician playing upon a grand organ. Whether it is a Lisxt rhapsody, a Chopin a grand selection of Wagnerian melodies, or one of the latest jazz numbers, the fine tone, technique, brilliance of ensemble a.nd interpretation are qualities that shine forth and plant themselves indelibly in the minds of those who hear this excellent combination of Australian musicians. The conductor is Mr Herbert H. Baile, who created a world’s record with the Newcastle Steel Works Band, and his high ideals and excellent conductorship are a guarantee that the Australian Silver Band will equal—many critics say they already excel —the wonderful Newcastle band. Mr Baile is taking this band Home to defend the titles he won at Belle Vue, Halifax and the Crystal Palace last year.
