STREET WORKS

BOROUGH FOREMANS REFORT The Borough Foreman (Mr P. Pilkington) reported at Wednesday night’s meeting' of the Borough Council as follows: We have re-graded the path and spread chips and also formed the side of the road at Ruakaka. Millar’s street had been similarly dealt with. In Carlyle street the footpath had been formed and chips spread. The road had also been re-formed and a start had been made to spread a thin coat of rnetal 12 feet wide. In Emerson street the path had been formed the side of the road attended to and chips spread. Shakespeare street had been partly formed, the path regraded and chips had been spread upon the north side, while a start had been made to form the path on the south side. At the abattoir site the road had been formed and a portion spread with metal. Carting had to be stopped on account of the wet weather, but he would complete the work as soon as possible. The fence line had been cleared and holes dug ready for the posts. The drain had been cleaned and extended, blackberries cut and two crossings made. In Stanley road the drain had been cleaned through Mr Miller’s section and an attempt had been made to clear the culvert but it was found that there was too much water. The road at the south end had been patched. Waihou road and Ema street had been patched. Along Wilson street the watertables had been cleaned and a portion of the path had been chipped and re-formed. A coat of chips would be given. The side of Rewi street had been cleaned and tree guards erected. The street had also been patched. The side of Bridge street had been cleaned and rubbish had been carted to the Bridge Domain and Honi street. In Kenrick street a concrete crossing had been made _at the butcher’s shop and the top portion of the street had been patched. Bitumen had been carted to the depot, and he expected to have the whole quantity (999 casks) landed there this week. In the Bridge Domain soil had been carted read' r for top dressing, which would be done when the weather permitted. He would recommend the Council to close the ground for a few months. Waterworks: We repaired a 3in pipe and two Sin pipes. In one place it was necessary to cut half-way across Whitaker street, breaking up the bitumen. He thought it would nay the Council to put a 2in pipe along the path on the west side, as he was afraid a lot more of the present pipes would need repairing before long. Electric Works: Poles had been carted and erected and two strips of metal had been spread on the power house road. This had been blinded with clay. Cr. Hedge moved that the matter re 2in pipe be referred to the works committee for a report. This was carried, and the matter of ton dressing the Bridge Domain was also referred to the works committee. The report was then adopted.
