TAURANGA SEAT
NATIONAL PARTY MR R. COULTER SELECTED At a meeting of delegates representing the National Party in the Tauranga electorate, held in Matamata on Wednesday afternoon, Mr R. Coulter was selected to contest the Tauranga seat at the election for the National Party. The delegates present were: Messrs Woodroofe, McMahon and Fitzgerald (Te Aroha), Davitt and Milliken (Morrinsville), Pohlen and Buchanan (Matamata). The meeting was presided over by Mr Pohlen, and two names were submitted for selection, Messrs Coulter and Kennedy, both of Te Aroha. Mr Coulter, on being requested to allow his name to go in for selection unconditionally and to nledge himself to abide by the decision of the delegates, said that if not selected he would undertake to place the matter of his candidature before his committee with a view to obtaining his release from pledges or promises he had given. If his supporters would consent he would agree to stand aside if the choice of the delegates fell upon Mr Kennedy. This was accepted as satisfactory. The ballot resulted in Mr Coulter being selected. Owing to the impassable state of the roads there were no delegates from Tauranga, but a message had -been sent that they were quite prepared to accept the decision of delegates selected from this side of the hill.
