MEMORIAL TO MR MASSEY

SIR JOHN FINDLAY’S VIEWS MR SEDDON’S CASE CITED “I am certainly of the opinion that there should be a national memorial to the late Prime Minister,” stated Sir John Findlay, K.G., to a N.Z. Times representative. “But I say that the claim upon the public of New Zealand to recognise by an appropriate monument the public life and work of Mr Massey is so clear that there ought to be no talk of public subscriptions. In Mr Seddon’s case it was felt that his services, amply justified the Government in finding the money requisite for the memorial; and if any difference were made between the two men, it would amount to an invidious distinction against Mr Massey, which, of course, should be avoided. That is my view of the matter.”
