UNTIDY STREETS

NEGLECTED TREES A large sum of money has been spent in planting trees in the streets of Te Aroha, and in a few years’ time these trees are going to add greatly to the good appearances of the town. It was no doubt intended when the trees were planted that they should receive proper attention, but this has not been given and in some cases they are almost completely overgrown with grass and weeds. In spite of the neglect they are thriving wonderfully well and there appear to be very few failures, but they would no doubt do much better if the weeds were cleared away and the ground cultivated around the roots. This should not mean a very heavy expenditure and the object which the Council has in view would be accomplished much more quickly. Apart from the trees the flanks of many of the streets in Te Aroha are in a very untidy condition and are in urgent need of attention.
