TROTTING

TE AROHA CLUB’S MEETING GOOD DAY’S SPORT Trotting under the auspices of the Te Aroha Trotting Club was held on the racecourse, Te Aroha, on Saturday last, and some interesting racing was witnessed, the finishes in some of the faces being of an exciting nature. The course was a little on the heavy side on account of the inclement weather which had prevailed for a few days prior to the meeting, this no doubt also accounting for the poor attendance of patrons. A fairly large number of visitors from Auckland were present, and horses from there accounted for - three of the events, namely: Money, Buz Buz and Bawldy Locanda, the latter paying the best dividend of the day. Admiral Lock (2), Peter McDonald, Ursuline and Heather Girl, with seconds, also hail from Auckland. The officials all worked hard and things were run very smoothly, events being run off well to time and without a hitch. This was the Te Aroha Trotting Club’s first totalisator meeting, and it did not come up to expectations as regards the turnover, the sum of only £8049 10/- being put through the machine. The Te Aroha Municipal Band was in attendance and enlivened proceedings with some nice selections. After the Cup race Mr R. L. Somers, president of the Club, presented the Cup to Mr F. Young, owner of the winner, Buz Buz, who is trained by J. W. Kenny (Epsom). Only one accident happened during the day and that was to Colleen Bell, who collided with the fence and received a severe gash in the leg.
