THE ABATTOIR

TENDER BY RITCHIE AND HEPBURN At the last meeting of the Borough Council Cr. Kennedy asked if Mr Ritchie had tendered for the abattoir while he was on the Building Committee of the Council. The Mayor said that no tenders had been accepted and fresh tenders woitfd be invited, not to exceed £3OOO. The first tenders were far too high. Mr Ritchie did not attend any meeting of the Building Committee or the Council at which this matter was considered.

Cr. Hedge said that the architect had drawn up plans but the work could not be done according to these plans for the money available. ___ His Worship said that during his term of office no councillor had benefitted by any Council work. All dealings with the Council had been straightforward and above board and he strongly resented any inference to the contrary. If people who talked in the street would only inquire at the Borough office they would find that there was no foundation for their gossip.
