PIAKO RUGBY UNION

WEEKLY MEETING The usual weekly meeting of the above Union was held in the Fire Brigade’s room on Saturday evening ast. Mr W. C. Kennedy (president) occupied the chair, and Mr Roach and Jr. Lawrence (vice-presidents) were also in attendance. The following members of the executive were in at;endance: Messrs J. Heathcote, G. Jenkinson, H. Petersen and Bullen; also the following delegates: Messi’s L. Allen and R. Woodroffe (Terriers), A. Charters and R. Woodroffe jnr. (City), J. Ryan and A. Law (Waihou), H. Semmens (Manawaru), A. Whatford and T. Turner (Referees’ Association), and A. Mikklesen (junior selector). Donations of £2 2/- from the president (Mr W. C. Kennedy) and £1 1/from Mr Roach (vice-president) were gratefully acknowledged. A discussiop- ensued in regard to he matches for the Poland Cup, and it was decided to instruct the delegates attending the Thames Valley Rugby Union meeting on Tuesday night next (May 12th) to favour two ounds being played as usual. A proposal from the Thames Rugby Union that a match between' Thames and Piako be played at Te Aroha on June 3rd was accepted, and an endeavour to arrange a junior representative game between the respective Unions as a curtain raiser is being made. It was decided to issue a challenge 'or the Birch Cup with the Thames Rugby Union. It was decided to. recommend the Thames Valley Rugby Union to lift he ban on A. Lipsey, his time having expired. Several accounts were passed for payment, among which is balance due fco Fraser Miller, who was injured iat the end of last season.

A discussion of some length took place in reference to insurance of players, and it was resolved that any player meeting with an accident must notify the executive within 48 hours n~ claim will not be allowed. Mr J. Towers, who suffered and injury to his ankle in the game between City and Manawaru on Saturday last, was posted on the insurance fund. The trophies won by the members of the winning’ teams in the seven-a-side tourney held on the previous Saturday are to be procured by Mr C. Morison, and will be handed over at an early date. A vote of thanks to the -chair closed a successful meeting.
