On Saturday evening .next a meeting of residents in the Springdale district will be held in the Springdale Hall to arrange for a farewell to Mr H. E. Martin, who is leaving the district.

His Worship the Mayor invites the citizens of Te Aroha to observe Thursday, the 14th, as a day of mourning on the occasion of the funeral of the late Mr Massey. It is also requested that business prenfises be closed all day Thursday. t Work is being carried out on the creek by the Bridge Domain. The bottom is being concreted, and concrete side walls are being extended past the newly erected rest room. These will 'serve the double pui’pose of confining the flood water and protecting the foundations of, the new building.

Now that play on the grass tennis courts has finished for the season the Domain staff are busily engaged patching and top-dressing the worn portions of the turf in readiness for next season. The top bowling green, which was done some time ago, is looking much improved,' and to all appearances will provide an excellent playing surface next season.

The work of reconstruction on the culvert over Lipsey Creek, where the creek crosses the main road at Ruakaka, is proceeding apace. A sure foundation is being provided by means of concrete piles, which are now being driven into position. Concrete is being laid on the - creek bed where it runs under the culvert. This should help materially to strengthen the structure against damage by future floods.
