TE AROHA v. PAEROA

Some 18 bowlers visited Paeroa on Saturday, and enjoyed playing the first inter-club match of the season. The president, Mr G. Hedye, accompanied the players, and after a speech of welcome by Paeroa’s president (Mr Brown), Mr Hedge spoke in no uncertain terms of the pleasure it afforded Te Aroha’s players to visit Paeroa, for the true bowling spirit was predominant at Paeroa. Cheers were exchanged between the clubs, and one “extra special cheer” for the ladies for the very excellent manner in which they had entertained the bowlers. The following are the results of the, games, Te Aroha players being mentioned first : J. Heathcote 30 v. Marsh 11. J. Whyte 22 v. Smith 11. J. D. Morison 20 v. Williams 23. A. Hinton 7. v. Burche 34. P. Heathcote 22 v. Haywood 16. H. Peteresen 19 v. Pender 27. Totals: Te Aroha 120, Paeroa 122. Petersen’s team also conjointly played for the “Stars.” For the first two heads the challengers made good headway, having scored a five on the second head, making six to nil. On the seventh head Paeroa scored a four making the totals B —7 in favour of the holders. On the 12th head another four was scored, making a total of 17 for’ Paeroa and 11 for Vie Arqba* The latter scored a three on the ninsji head. On the 13th head a three advanced Paeroa’s lead'to 20—11. For three heads Te Aroha silenced Paeroa’s progress, in Ijhc meantime scoring six, making the scores 20—17. Porter has received the minutes of the Council of the South Auckland Bowling Centre, connected with its last meeting, at which Mr F. L. ; Kenrick represented Te Aroha. The following clauses were sent forward as being carried at the annual meeting:— ' J v ~ Rule 6, • Section XI, 3m mended as follows: “A bowl which in its original course comes to rest less than 20 feet from the edge of the mat shall be dead.” 'The following rule to be added to section XIII: “If a toucher in the ditch is a toucher it shall remain where it comes to rest; if displaced by a dead, ball, it shall be replaced.” That rule 1 of section 111 should be amended to read: “That the shall not be more than 48in long nor more than 18in wide, nor less than 36in long and 15in wide.” The Dominion Association advises that a visiting team of eight rinks will be arriving in New Zealand about the end of next year. The following tournament dates have been approved: Te Aroha, January Ist to 4th; Rotorua, February 9th. Twenty-third S.A.B.C. at Te Aroha from January 28th.
