DAMAGING PROPERTY
YOUTHS IN THE DOMAIN The destruction of public property by thoughtless boys or youths is a growing evil in Te Aroha and has now assumed such proportions that some definite action will be necessary in order to impress on the minds of offenders the seriousness of their crimes. A complaint has reached us that of late propei’ty in the Domain has been wantonly damaged and as a result the public are likely to lose some of the benefits previously enjoyed. The pump at one spring, the water from which is highly prized by many people in quest of health, has been thrown out of action by the removal of parts, and at spring 22 the printed analysis of the water has been destroyed and the rubbish receptacle thrown into the creek. Actions such as these count against the whole community and tend to bring the town into disrepute. It is to be hoped, therefore, that such a strong feeling of resentment against the wrongdoers will be aroused that such precautions will be adopted as will prevent a repetition of the offences. It is stated that a careful watch by officials is to be kept and the public are asked, for the good name of the town, to hand in the names of any boys or youths found abusing Domain property. If the pub-, lie take this matter up in a proper way the bands of hoodlums who wander about the Domain damaging property will place some restraint upon their folly. If any of the culprits are caught, it is the intention of the Tourist Department’s officials to have them brought before a magistrate and press for a severe penalty.
