THAMES VALLEY UNION ANNUAL MEETING DR. W. R. LAWRENCE ELECTED PRESIDENT At Paeroa on Thursday evening the annual meeting of Thames Valley Rugby Union was held. Mr Silcock (president) was in the chair. Delegates present represented the Paeroa, Piako and Hauraki Plains sub-un-ions. The Waihi sub-union apologised for not being represented, on account of having misunderstood the date of the meeting. REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET The secretary, Mr J. Walmsley, read a lengthy and interesting annual report of the Union’s successful operations throughout last year. The balance sheet was as follows: General Account —Receipts: Balance from last year, £6/11/11; affiliation fees, £4/4/0; gate Wanganui filial ch, £O3/0/5; gate Auckland match, £49/5/9; refund delegates expenses N.Z.R.U., £B/8/5; refund tickets Waikato match, 14/-; balance transferred from school account, 2d; total, £132/4/8. Expenditure: Expenses Wanganui match, £25/6/7; expenses Auckland match, £lB/15/9; expenses Waikato match, £4/12/6; purchase of 18 jerseys, £9; refund Piako Rugby Union, £4/6/6; car hire (travelling players), £4O/13/6; advances to petty cash, £3 14/-; hire of hall for meetings, £1; carting sand to Paeroa ground, 12/-; sundry expenses and Bank charges, £4/4/6; J. ‘jWalmsley, delegates expenses N.Z.R.U. £B/8/5; affiliation fee N.Z.R.U., £5/12/-; balance at Bank, £5/18/11; total, £132/4/8. Petty Cash Account-Receipts: Balance from last year, 4/2; advances from general account, £3/14/-; total £3/18/2. Expenditure: Balance of affiliation fee N.G.R.U., 7/-; travelling expenses to Te Aroha, 4/2, stationery, postage and telegrams, £2/18/2; sundry expenses 7/6; balance cash in hand, 1/4; total, £3/18/2. Balance Sheet—Liabilities: Sundry creditor (Plains R.U.), £ll/15/4; balance of assets over liabilities, £2 4/11; total £l4/0/3. Assets: 18 Jei*seys, £8; cash in hand and at Bank, £6/0/3; total, £l4 0/3. Both the report and balance sheet were adopted. THE WANGANUI MATCH In answer to Mr Power (Paeroa) the president said the reason why the expenditure in connection with the Wanganui match at Te Aroha was heavier in comparison to that of the Auckland match at Paeroa, was because the Wanganui players were in, Te Aroha for over two days, during which time they had to be entertained, while the Auckland players arrived at Paeroa on the morning of the match and departed again the same afternoon. The secretary stated that the total expenses of each match in question, including motor car hire, was: Wanganui, £4O 5s Id; Auckland, £25 18s 6d. SECRETARY COMPLIMENTED The hon. auditor, Mr G. A. Bush, remarked that the duty of auditing the balance sheet was made a pleaant one by the fact that the secretary had all the accounts in order, and every penny accounted for, and he as auditor complimented Mr Walmsley for this. (Hear, hear!) ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Ihe election of officers for the ensuing year resulted.—

Patron, Hugh Poland, Esq., M.P. Just prior to the election of president, Mr Silcock, who has been in office since the Union’s inception, two years ago, signified his intention not to seek re-election, feeling that he will not be able in the future to give the time necessary to do full justice to his office. During his remarks he referred to the history of the Thames Valley Union, and how it had originated from the old Goldfield’s Union. A short time ago, he said, it was thought possible that the Thames Rugby Union would come in with us, but so far that has not come about. “Nevertheless <the time may not be far distant when they will sec eye to eve with us,” he continued. “The Thames Valley body is yet in its infancy, and I foresee great achievement for it.” He then had much pleasure in proposing Dr. W. R. Lawrence as president. Mr Shaw (Paeroa) seconded, and the proposition was carried unanimously. President—Dr. W. R. Lawrence. Vice-presidents—Messrs P. A. ,Brenan (Paeroa), Reg. Sprague (Piako), and J. Costello (Haurauki Plains). The Waihi vice-president was left to the Waihi sub-union to propose.

Hon. Auditor—Mr G. A. Bush. ~ Hon. Treasurer—Mr R. B. Penlington. Hon. Secretary—Mr W. Smith Headc carters —Paeroa. THANKS Mr Bush moved that a hearty vote of thanks for valuable services rendered, be accorded the retiring secretary (Mr J. Walmsley). who had declined re-election. Seconded by Mr Silcock and carried with acclamation. DELEGATE TO N.Z. R.U. The action of the president and secretary in appointing Mr Shand (Paeroa) to represent Thames Valley at the annual conference of the New Zealand Rugby Union, which is now being held at Wellington was approved.
