SHELTER TREES
STATE NURSERY STOCK NOW AVAILABLE TO SETTLERS The value of shelter trees came up for discussion at the Piako County Council on Monday through the reading of a letter from the State Nursery Office, Rotorua. The communication gave particulars of stocks of trees on hand. The Council decided that each riding member bring the matter before branches of the Farmers’ Union. The chairman (Cr. F. W. Walters) said that it was the first time the Department had acquainted the Council concerning the stocks of trees on hand. He personally believed in planting shelter trees in large numbers. He planted about 1000 a year.
