VISITING PRELATES

ARRIVAL IN DOMINION WELCOME BY THE LAITY Archbishop Mannix, of Melbourne, and Bishop McCarthy, of Sandhurst, were accorded a hearty welcome at the Bishop's house, Ponsonby, Auckland, by a representative gathering of the Roman Catholic laity on Thursday evening. Bishop Cleary presided. ’ Addresses of welcome were delivered by Bishop Cleary, Bishop Liston, and Messrs M. J. Sheahan and J. J. Sullivan.

Archbishop Mannix, in reply, expressed delight at this, his first visit to New Zealand. He was particularly charmed with Auckland and its surroundings, and he looked forward with great pleasure to his tour through the Dominion, which would extend South to the Cold Lakes and the Mount Cook district.

Bishop McCarthy also responded, expressing delight at being amongst friends and well-wishers.

The gathering concluded with three hearty cheers for Archbishop Mannix and Bishop McCarthy.
