New stockings should always be washed before being worn.
Fried and baked bananas are both appetising and nourishing. To clean Japanned trays rub them with flour slightly warned in the oven. When whipping cream, add three or four (not more) drops of lemon juice, and it will soon become thick. When making suet pudding add an equal quantity of stale bread soaked in cold water.
Potatoes should be boiled in their skins to save waste. They can be peeled before being sent to the table. Save the vinegar left over from pickles. It is better than ordinary vinegar for salad dressing. Instead of chopping suet, put it through the mincing machine. This is quicker and easier. Instead of boiling beetroot, roast them in the oven. Their flavour will be much improved. N Cane chairs can be cleaned by sponging them until soaked with soap and hot water. .
Stale biscuits can be made- quite fresh and crisp if placed'for a few. minutes in the oven.
A little kerosene on a rag polishes zinc cans and baths to an almosc silvery appearance.
When making bread pudding, soak the bread in warm skim milk, instead of water. This makes the pudding far more nourishing.
When using stale bread for puddings, always soak it in cold liquid, not hot. The former will make it light and crumbly—the latter heavy.
To brown a pie easily, brush over with milk in which a lump of sugar has been dissolved just before placing in the oven.
