SPRINGDALE

TENNIS CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING 1 The courts of the Springdale Tennis Club were officially opened last Saturday by the patron, F. W. Walters, Esq. The weather was very unfavorable in the morning, but improved in the afternoon, and there was quite a good attendance of local players, as well as representatives from the Waitoa, Tatuanui and No. 8 clubs. Both courts were continuously occupied from noon until late in the evening, and a very pleasant day was spent.

During the course of his remarks Mr Walters made reference to the splendid assistance of the ladies in raising funds, and spoke in eulogistic terms of the voluntary labor so freely given by the residents of the district. The courts, in first-class order and free of debt as they now are, reflect credit on the district. The local club is very much indebted to Mr and Mrs Walters for their donation of a trophy each for competition among the members. This should encourage young players, increase membership and stimulate local interest in the game generally. It is the intention of the committee to arrange a series of inter-club matches as soon as possible.
