ENGINEER’S REPORT

CONSIDERABLE SAVING FOR i > QUARTER Vft The electrical engineer, Mr Dalton, presented his report to the Borough Council on Wednesday evening as follows: Since last meeting of the Council the power has been off on one occasion. This was to enable us to connect in the Memorial lights. I have continned running the plant during the peak loads on Saturday nights only. Our peak this quarter reached 145.5 K.V.A., but by running the plant our demand from the Power Board was only 108 K.Y.A. This has resulted in a saving for the September quarter of £96/5/-. Herriesville showed a slight increase, but as this section is on a separate supply, is not affected by the running of the plant. It is my intention to feed Lipsey street from the town supply instead of from Herriesville at the end of this quarter. Street Lights.—As decided by the Council, two street lights have been erected in Carlyle street, one at the corner of Whitaker and Longfellow streets, and one at the far end of the Waihou road. During the month 17 / street lights have been replaced. Memorial Lights.—The iron pole in the telegraph line in Kenrick street has been replaced with one of our poles and the necessary wiring for the lights erected thereon. A street / light has beeii installed on the four corner poles and the time switch set to cut out at day break. \ Lines Extensions. —A new single phase line together with a street light wire has been erected in Koromiko street, and Mr Dixon’s two houses connected thereto. Metering.—Good progress is being made with the metering of flat rate installations. Under the contract 32 dwellings have been completed. In addition to this we have metered the whole of Stanley road, and eleven other houses 1 ., Re-Installations.—Messrs Hetlierington’s, Ltd., have had their installation in Whitaker street re-installed, and the re-installation of the Grand Hotel is now in progress. Inspection.—The Inspector of Machinery has inspected the plant and found all in order. , transformer Station.—A start has , been made on the installation of the transformer station' in Ema street, but as it will be some time yet before the transformer arrives we are only working on this job during wet weather. 1 The report was adopted, and the engineer complimented on the saving made on the last quarter, as indicated in the report, / i
