‘ VISIT TO MRS HIGGINS SYMPATHY APPRECIATED The Mayoress of Waihi (Mrs Wallnutt), accompanied by Mesdames Hamilton (Waihi Hospital Board), O’Grady, and Jowsey, journeyed by car to Waitawheta on Friday last with a view to paying a visit to Mrs Higgins, wife of the man Higgins now in custody on a charge of murder. The residence is in an isolated part of the Waitawheta bush. Mrs Higgins seemed quite surprised at the visit, and said she thought the woi Id was embittered against her. The Mayoress pointed out that they recognised her as a sister, and that the churches and others were praying for her in her great trial; also that she had many friends. Mrs Higgins anxiously inquired after the patients in the hospital, and when informed that they were making good piogiess showed much relief and pleasure. The visitors describe Mrs Higgins as a refined woman, with sorrow plainly written on her face. When saying-good-bye Mrs Higgins said, “You do not know what this visit you ladies have made means to me. I feel a great deal better.” The ladies also visited Mrs Stewart (mother of one of the little victims), who expressed pleasure at flu* call and said that, everyone had sympathy with Mrs H igg i n s.— Telegraph.
