M. POINCAIRE

M- Poincaire, the French Prime Minister, is a man of one idea. He was born in Lorraine, and he inherited the dream of revenue for 1870, which was naturally stronger on the German frontier than in any other part of France. He is a short, strongly built man, with a beard and a high pitched voice. Work is his life. He apparently needs no rest, and he has no amusements. He is the brother ,f of a distinguished scientist, and he is the author of several books. He is 63 years old, and he has 30 years’ experience of French official life. Compromise is the essence of English politics. Raymond Poincaire simply does not understand compromise, and this makes it infinitely difficult for English statesmen to deal with him. He does not see very far, but he sees very clearly and steadily.
