NEW HOST

OF HOT SPRINGS HOTEL The members of the Tauranga Gun Club met at the Commercial Hotel on Friday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr N. Quirke, who is leaving Tauranga after a residence of twelve years. Mr A. E. Newsham, president of the Club, presided. He paid a tribute to the excellent sporting qualities possessed by Mr Quirke and spoke in appreciative terms of the liberal assistance he had always given to the sporting institutions of the town. He then asked His Worship the Mayor to make a presentation on behalf of the Club to Mr Quirke. Mr Dive, in a happy speech, referred to Mr Quirke’s many estimable qualities. He then handed him a silver spirit flask, suitably inscribed, at the same time wishing Mr Quirke and family a full measure of prosperity in their new home at Te Aroha.

Mr Quirke suitably acknowledged the gift. He said that although he was leaving Tauranga for the time being it was his intention to return and again take up his residence in the town.

The health of Mrs and Miss Quirke was proposed by Mr Matheson and suitably honored.

Mr and Mrs Quirke left for Auckland by steamer on Friday night en route for Te Aroha, where Mr Quirke takes over the Hot Springs Hotel from Mr Somers. —Bay of Plenty Times.
