Monthly Meeting The ordinary monthly meeting of the Te Aroba Chamber of Commerce % was held on Tuesday evening. Pr.s- f -| ent—Messrs F. L. Kenrick (president in the chair), R.' Coulter, J. L. Barlow, A. D. Wallace, H. E. Wilcox, A A. Reese and the secretary, Mr T. Venables. Correspondence was received from the general manager, Tourist and Health Resorts, announcing reductions (already published in the News) iu charg's for bowling, tennis and croquet. This was in response to representations made lately bp the Chamber and other bodies. The chairman said he had also beeu asked to obtain an estimate of the ccst of lighting by electricity one of the Domiin bowling greens to suable play to bo indulged in up to say 10 p.m. The Minister for Public Works advised that the District Engineer at Auobland would shortly comimnicate with the Chamber in regard to an inspection of the Waihou Rivet as effecting tho improvement for navigation. Sir William Hemes, M. P., wrote:— “ With refereacb to, tbffi Thames Harbor Amendment Bill before the House at the present time, I have already intimated to the Piako and Matamata County Councils, the Moriinsville Borough Council aud the Matamata Town Board that I shall' opp Be the Bill and they are, I believe, sending delegates to be heard' before the Local Bills Committee in opposition to the Bill. I may, however, point <ut that even if this Bill is thrown out, the original Act of 1920 will still bs law, and Te Aroha botough isiocluded in that Aot and rated at |d in the £. £ So that it would not be possible to exolude Te Aroha from the schedule of the original Act. The only remedy would be to vote solidly against any loan proposals if they are put forward 1 aud to get other local bodies and chambersof commerce to urge their , ratepayers to do the same.’’ Mr Coulter leported having given . evidence before the Local Bills Committee, claiming that the harbor scheme should be deliberated upon by a board of experts before heavy expenditure was incurred. Another point he had made was the objection , to proceeding with hqrbor works untijLtne Government policy in regard to Waihon river improvement and control is deoided upon. He had also pointed out that the time was not opportune to go on the market for heavy loan moneys. .
