GORDON
The members of the Gordon Branch of tho Auckland Women’s Patriotic League held a very pleasant meeting at the residence oi Miss Montague on Juno 6th opening with an attendance of nine members aud three visitors, Mrs Brooks presiding. Mrs Grigg read the minutes ol the previous meeting, also two appears from tho parent League, which received duo consideration and discussion, and finally it was decided to guarantee a certain sum per month for the cause stated. The monthly parcel of sanitary singlets, also guaranteed by the League viz. three dozen., were packed to be sent away, which with an order to be made up by Srneeton’s for £6 worth of soups, milk, etc, constituted the amounts sent for the month. Mrs (jrigg read a letter from the Belgiau Consul stating that as they had so little shipping accommodation, they could not send auy more clothing so plans were made to uso the League’s energies in another direction. Mrs Grigg also kindly read a letter from her sou written ou the voyage home, where he lies iu a critical condition. The collection for the day amounted to £1 Bs. The Misses Montague dispensed afternoon tea in an appreciating manner, all expressing their regret that it would be the last meeting held at Miss Montague’s for some time, aud wishing htfT' all happiness iu her new sphere. The next meeting will be held at the residence of Mrs Orr.
