Golden Wedding

MR. & MRS. GALLAGHER Mr andjMrs Gallagher,of Queen St. Onehunga, celebrated their golden wedding on Monday. Mr Gallagher arri ed in Auckland with his parents in 18+7, and sett'ed in Otahuhu. When the Waikato war broke out he joined Col. Nixon’s Cavalry, C.D.F., and was in the actions of Rangiaoh'a Orakau, Te Ranga and Tauiaiga* of 1563 and 1864. He holds the New Zealand War medal. Married June,l 1865. In August, 1867, he went to the Thames on the rumour of gold being found ; took < horses, and was engaged carting machinery anl road contracting. When gold was found at Te Aroha in 1880 he took horses and coaches to that place; remained there until 1904, when he retired to Onehunga. During his term of residence in Te Aroha he was connected with local bodies, and was chairman of the lown Board, chairman of the Licensing Bench Committee,borough councillor, member of the Plot Springs Domain Board, trustee for Cemetery and Recreation Reserve Boards, Mayor, and chairman of the Hot Springs Domain Board, member of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and Justice of the Peace for over 20 years.
