For Country and Empire

THAMES VALLEY’S QUOTA A FURTHER DRAFT The Te Aroha Railway Station wasthrongod with people on Friday when a further draft of ninety five men entrained for Trentham to take their places in the 7th Reinforcement draft. The soldiers were in charge of Major H. H, Brown and were in the brighestof spirits, but fully realised the extent of their mission. They were addressed by the Mayor of Te Aroha, Mr W. Norrell, who said that the men who had already taken their places at the Front had covered themselves and their country with glory, and had shown that New Zealanders were amongst the finest troops in the world. He was satisfied that those who were now going would do their part in assisting to uphold the great traditions of the Empire. The Mayor also referred to the fact that among the draft that day were two of the Timmins brothers, who had volunteered, and who already had two brothers at the Front. Cheers were given for the Timmins family, for the Mayor, and for the 6th Haurakis.

With the ninety-five men who left on'Friday, the Hauraki’s quota to the Forces is now 900 men. Further volunteers are needed, and arrangements can be made for any men desiring to have the time of leaving for camp deferred. Thus any men requiring to go say in August, may sign their papers and pass the Doctor now, and yet not be called upon until the month in which they wish to leave.
