Piako County Council.

The Eastport Progressive Committee. At the County meeting yes'erday the following letter was read from Mr Forbes West, Secretary of the Eastport Hoad Progress. Committee, “ I am authorised to convey to you the following resolution passed at the last meeting of our Committee, This committee have no intention whatever of being dictatorial iu their approaches to the Piako County Council. At the same time this meeting strongly protests against the attitude of the Chairman as reported in the Te Aroha Mail and call upon him to with draw his obnoxious reference to the committee as a self-elected crowd. The Chairman said the letter was t ne outcome of a report of the last meeting. What he had said was more in the way of a joke than otherwise. Nothing had been said about “ they must not think they can boss the Council, and as a matter of fact it was Cr. Ohepmell and not himself, who had said that “ they had gone a bC too far,” and th : s put a different light on it. He had moved t> at the Committee be given the information about the loan moneys, but the report did not make this plain, If the report were read off handed it would appear a bit stioug. After referring to two letters recently published. Cr. Manuel said some of his enemies had lately had a great crowing over him, but they would find he had a broad back and a stout heart, and would yet be ou top some day. He read the report in the News, which he said stated the position correctly, and included his motion that particulars be giveu the Eastport Road Progressive Committee: Cr Maisey said he thought they were making rather too much of it, as the particulars asked for had been sent, Ou Cr. Milliken’s motion the Clerk was requested to write to the Committee stating that the report in the News was correct.

Cr, Chepmell said he did not believe in naming any distinction between papers. The proposition was carried, oulv Cr. Chepmell dissenting.
