" Vigilant " writes as follows anent the New Zealand horses in last week's " Sportsman " : — Of all the horses now working at Flemington, none are doing better than the New Zealand four— Trenton, Thunderbolt, Winchester, and Liverpool — and shrewd judges say that the Melbourne Gup lies between Trenton and Liverpool. . A? a matter of fact, the best gallops of the week have been performed by these horses, and Maoriland prospects of winning our Cup never looked brighter than at present. Eaoh of the four horses has been heavily baoked for one or other of our three big races, and it is within the bounds of pro-! bability that all three may be carried off by a New Zealander. Winchester has been supported "with such Bpirit for. the Caulfield Cup, in which his weight is 6st. 91b,, that his party evidently look upon him as a real good thing for that race. Thunderbolt also carries tons of Maoriland money in the V.R.C. Derby, in/ which I consider his bhance. second only to one, -and both Trenton and Liverpool have been backed

for all the money in the market for the Melbourne Cup down to hundreds to six and *f even. With such a "team aa this— Winchester, Thunderbolt, and Liverpool — one owner has a better chance of winning, the treble than I ever remember, while if he lithe Hon. Wm. Robinson— fails, the New Zealand ored horses, Nordenfeldt and Trenton, may between them carry off our Derby and Cup.
