Unexpected Result of Penitence.
A iiEMAHKABLE case of confession of guilt came before the Salisbury magistrates recently. A member of the Salisbury Theo logical College was in the habit of visiting a family named Nicholas, and aoeing that the man was in distress, ho induced him to confide in him, and the man confessed to hiving stolen money at a vill ge named Downton during a fire. The student wrote to the man robbed asking forgiveness for the culprit, and promising to pay the cash by instalments. This letter was promptly handed to the^police, and the culprit was arrested. He was considerably surprised, more especially at the unexpected result of i he student's interference. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. The student hari been officiating at High Church services.
