It affords us mudi pleasnre to be able to inform our readers that a grant of £34 4s 9d has been assigned to om* library, as its share of the Public Library subsidy of £6000j When we remember* that no library m the colony has received more than £50 ; and then again, bear m mind the short time the local one has been established, the fact is doubly gratifying, and we are sure to none more so than to its energetic treasurer, Mr George Wilson, who has f.om the first shown so much energy, and devoted much valuable time m seeking to have a Public Library established, and that on a good sound basis, m this place. The library is now exceedingly well supplied with newspapers, home and colonial journals, and amongst the collection of books will be found many valuable and standard works. In fact, taken altogether, it will bear very favourable comparison with many of far more lengthened existence. We may ad i for the information of our readers, that 356 libraries made application for a share m the subsidy referred to, and of this number, 13 received grants to tho-^stent of £50 each, being the maximum -sum allowed to any one 1 brary. The amount stated as payable to .Te Aroha Public Library being £84 4s 9 !, is equal to a subsidy of 6s 10| 1 m the pound on £99 6s ; made up as follows : — Kejcipfs of Library as approved £74 6s, addition £20. :=
