The Auckland Herald, in an editorial article, suggests that, while the Government is searching for modes of increasing the rcvnue without unduly harassing the community, it should consider the recovery, by a small grading charge, of the public expenditure upon dairies, including' the grading cost. A grading- charge of 1/ per cwt. on the butter . annually exported from the Dominion (soys the article) would recoup the Government in the sum of, approximately, £20,000, while about £15.000 would be obtained by a charge of ()& pr cwt. upon cheese exported. This charge of Jess than oneninth of a penny pr pound on butter and Jess than, one-eighteenth of a penny per pound en cheese, could not be considered in any' way oppressive.
