EUCHRE PARTY AT OHUTU.
No. 5. THE FARMERS' QUEEN. The recently-former Ohutu Ladies' Committee, who are wor'nug to forward Mrs Gilchrist's candidature, and thus help our wounded heroes, Pave' lost no tim e in getting to work. A large and successful euchre party was held in the school, Ohutu, on Saturday evening. Over 60 persons engaged" in euchre, until 10.30 p.m., when a' bountiful supper was partaken of. The' prizes were given by Misses N. and M. O'Connor, the lucky winners beingMrs Arms, first pidze for the ladies; Mr Ashton, first prize for the gentlemen; Mrs Gilshrist and Mr Kite winning the "boob\# prizes respectively.
After supper Mr Ashton introduced Mrs Gilchrist, "The Farmers' Queen," to the gathering, who gave 'her a' cordial welcome. Mr Gilchrist thanked the Ohutu people for the welcome accorded his wife.
Several competitions took place during the evening, Mr A. !lalb«r*, of Utiku, won a silver jam spoon and butter knife, given by Mrs Allen; Mr W. Campbell won preserved fruit given by Mrs Isdale, and Mrs Gilchrist wona silk blouse given by Messrs Gardner and Co., Taihape. Mrs Gilchrist returned her prize to the committee. »
The Ohutu Ladies' Committee areto be congratulated on the success of the party, for the whole of the arrangements, including the supper, were carried out by them. At tihe conclusion of the concert held in Utiku on Thursday evening, a dance took place. Mrs A. Cair/ieM, of Ohutu, supplied the music, and Mr W. Campbell was M.C. The following ladies sold flowers at the concert: Mesdames G. Allen and Arms, and Misses Heise, Piercy, OConnor, Wdniata, and' one other lady.
