CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce was presided over by Mr W. M. Tyers. A sub-committee was appointed to report to the council on the question of port communications. Complaint having been made as to delay in obtaining parcels subject to duty, a deputation was appointed to wait on the Collector of Custo: is on tho matter. With reference to the revision of the Customs tariff, it wtts u'cided to circularise members, it -,g t iem to forward any suggestions tlu. r. ■ have, so that these can be co.isi<ie..c.. by the Importers' Sectional Committee, which is to report to the council at the January meeting. A letter was received from tho Prime Minister notifying the extension of time for subscriptions to the £6,000,000 loan, and asking the co-operation of the chamber in obtaining contributions. It was decided to reply that tho assistance of the chamber would be given. On the recommendation of a sub-com-mittee appointed to endeavour to obtain a suitable office for use by the Railway Department as a central booking office, it was decided to telegraph to the General Manager of Railways, asking him to make temporary' arrangements in the Parcels Post Office for a railway booking office, in view of the
