Amongst ""The arrivals in Wellington " by the Manuka yesterday were Mr and Mrs Kenneth Wardrop, who are coming to Christchureh to see the latter's mother, Mrs Kohn. Mrs Wardrop will be remembered here as Miss Gella Kohn. She has lived in England for several years, and it was there her marriage took place. Mrs G. Price has arrived in the Dominion from Midhurst, Sussex, to take Tip the position of matron at Lincoln Agricultural College. She will assume her duties at the beginning of the year. In the Old Country she held positions in different large institutions, where there were as many as 2000 patients. She was lady superintendent of Farnham House, Dublin, for private mental cases, also af King Edward VII. Sanatorium. Mrs Price is, so far, delighted with New Zealand, and has brought out many letters of introduction to well-known residents here. She also holds very high testimonials, among them being one from Bir Frederick Treves. Her little daughter's delicate health decided her to come to this country. » A very successful fancy dress social was held in the Fairton school on Friday, in aid of the prize fund. Some very pretty and original costumes were worn. Amongst those present were: Mrs Phelan (Japanese), Misses Willers i Aviation), H. Johnson (Bubbles), J. tandie (Tambourine Girl), M. Tait (Belpan), B. Tait (Japanese), A. Chestera and E. Amos (Pierrettes), E. Dreunan (Bailor Girl), H. Chambers (Gipsy), L. Drennan (Lady of the 18th Century), 0. Johnson (Irish Colleen), K. Lysaght (List a while), R. Johnson (Japanese), E. Johnson (Pierrette), H. Dewe (Japanese), D. Willis (Stars and Stripes), Messrs H. Chappel (Clown), P. Lysaght (Pierrot) and Phil Capon (Pierrette). Excellent music was supplied by Mrs Larkin, Miss Willers, Messrs Bennison and Chappel. Mr P. Lysaght acted as The vogue for colour has extended to the tea-table, and iced cakes in rainbow hues are now the fancy of the moment, affirms an English correspondent. Chocolate and coffee-coloured icing is considered distinctly dull, and the pale pink variety—once so popular on the birthday table—hopelessly out of date. Strange "jazz" and dazzle designs decorate the homely plum cake, and violet, crimson, cobalt and ultramarine coloured icings are the latest in cake fashions. Even the wedding cake is tottering on its snowy foundation. With the new idea of introducing a colour note into the bridal toilet, comes the fancy for tinted icing on the wedding cake. To prevent guests' frocks clashing with the cake colour scheme, many hostesses indicate the prospective colour of their confectionery when issuing the invitation. "We are having a purple tea to-day, and hope you will come,'' is a not unusual note to find on the breakfast table. Endless illustrations of what'can be flone to satisfy the demands of superior taste and good judgment as to values may be seen in "Patricians" new range of goods (corner of Victoria and Montreal Streets).
