Whole-! sale prices will be slightly lower than] last season's, and probably retail rates will be lower. At the'Lyttelton Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr F. G. Norton, J.P., William Kidd, a seaman on the Somerset, was fined 5/- for being drunk and disorderly in London Street on Saturday night. A sitting of te Kaiapoi Magistrate's Court was held this morning before Mr V. G. Day, S.M. Harry Moore, for riding a motor-cycle without lights, was fined 10/- and 7/- costs. James Paton was charged with driving a motor-car at an excessive speed. A fine of 40/and 30/- costs was inflicted. Now that the tramway points at tho Bank of New Zealand corner have beenj re-layed, the replacement of the north-and-south tracks in Cathedral Square will shortly bo started. This work is to be carried on continuously, and will include tho replacement of the points and crossings at Broadway's corner. Tho special prize for the premier fe.T. rose at the Canterbury Horticultural Show on Saturday was won by Mrs J. H. Stringer with a remarkablyfine "Lyon" bloom. The premier T. rose was a "Mrs Herbert Stevens" shown by Mr E. P. Stead, which was described by the judges as magnificent. Those who sold art union tickets in connection with the fete are notified that butts must be returned by Wednesday next. The weekly bulletin issued by the Public Health Department at noon today recorded the notification of 86 cases of infectious disease. The C.E.M.S. Band (Christchurch Diocese) is holding ft Christmas bazaar and New Zealand Championship Doll Show in the Art Gallery from December 13 to 18. The funds raised are to clear off a debt on the uniforms and purchase a new set of instruments for members of tho band. The band j was formerly known as tho St. Michael's Boy Scout Band and did a large amount of good work during tho War period. The various competitions to be hold at the carnival include a fancy dress competition for boys and girls under 15, three doll championships and the best pincushion made by a school girl.
