The Bishop of Dunedin and the Dean of Christchurch left for Wellington last evening, to attend the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Anglican Synod in Wellington. Mr A. B. Fuller, eldest son of Mr B. J. Fuller, of Fuller's vaudeville enterprises, has been appointed the firm's representative in San Francisco, and is now a resident of that city. The Rev. .1. de B. Gahvey, secretary to the Standing Committee of the General Synod, will travel to Wellington this evening to attend the meeting of the committee to-morrow. Mr W. .1. Walker, 8.A., formerly of the Southbridge District High School, has been appointed to the headmastership of the Lyttelton District High School, in succession to Mr R. B. Clarke, who is now headmaster of the Adding ton School. Mr T. Goodman, lately of the firm of Hollander and Goodman, who is about to depart for America and Europe, was farewelled by members of the staff last, night. He was the recipient of presentations made bv Mr J. Hollander and the Rev. D. Sehloss. Brigadier-General D. .1. McGavin, C.M.G., D.5.0., Director of Medicaf Services, arrived in Christchurch from .Wellington this periling. lie is inspecting military hospitals to-day. Tomorrow he will visit the Queen Mary Hospital at Hanmer. Captain Mariner Holms, of Wellington, late R.N T ., son of the late Captain Holms, who was well known in shipping circles, has been successful in obtaining his extra master's certificate, which is the highest grade offered by the Board of Trade. 'lie has the distinction of being the first candidate in New Zealand to pass this examination under the new regulations. Messrs T. Druinmond and J. O'Malley, from the Cashmere Military Sanatorium, ami Mr W. E. Leadley, secretary of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association, will leave for Wellington this evening. Their mission is to give evidence before a Parliamentary Committee which has been appointed to make inquiries into the repatriation of T.B. men. Mr Henry 11. Scotland, B.Sc, A.M.T., Mech.E., s\in of the late Hon. H. Scotlaud, M.L.C., who lias been in England for the last seven years, is returning to Xew Zealand, accompanied by his wife and two children. During the War, Mr Scotland was engaged in the Aeronautical Inspection Directorate of Sheffield, and his services were placed at the disposal of the Steel Research Committee of the British Engineering Standards Association.

At last night's meeting of the Sumner Borough Council Mr C. Dash resigned his position as Town Clerk, owing to having been appointed Town Clerk and Manager for the Rangiora Council. The council's regret at losing Mr Dash was expressed by the Mayor, Hon. J. Barr, M.L.C., and special references were made to his excellent work iu connection with the finance of the borough. Other councillors spoke in similar strain.
