A WARM EXCHANGE.
POLITICAL "COMPLIMENTS." MR HUGHES AND MR RYAN. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. MELBOUBNE, Aug. 14. In the House of Representatives, a motion by the Rt. Hon. W. M. Hughes for leave to introduce a Bill tp make provision for the acceptance of the mandate over captured German possessions in the Pacific led to a hot interchange of "compliments" between him and Mr Ryan. The proceedings at times were very lively. Mr Ryan demanded that an idea should be given of the contents of the Bill, but this Mr Hughes refused, and told Mr Ryan to wait until the measure was introduced. He accused Mr Ryan of attending the House only in his spare time, and not doing enough to earn his Parliamentary salary. Mr Ryan had his revenge, as the Government failed to secure a'quorum of the House, and the motion lapsed.
