With reference to the board's application for a grant for the erection of workshops In connection with the school, the Director of Education (Dr W. .J. In an earlier letter from the department it was noted that the department's suggestions provided for n much more expensive lloor than was probably contemplated by the Education Board's architect. Such a floor, however, was considered to be the best for workshops intended to be permanently available for any required purpose. By using ordinary forms of floor construction the cost could be reduced by 4/- per square foot. As regards the sawtooth root it was only necessary to pointy out that such roofs were invariably adapted lor workshop construction where elllcient lighting, is desired, it was suggested that the building should be designed so that any necessary extension or any required modification in the i.scs of the building might be easily made at any future time, and that 1 1 ■ , " 11 ;. 1 . , . ti0ns be only temporary and movable. S. La Trobe, Superintendent of Technical Education, intimated that the board's application for a speciul capitation ol 7/11 per class hour for the plumbing class at the school was being considered by the department. It was hoped that the students m this class would attend more regularly in the future, and that, should the roll number at any time be such lis not to warrant the continuance of the classes, the department would be informed immediately, lhe letter was leeched, the Director stotbijt. that at present, the board was losing S&T these classes. i^^S' The superintendent of technical ciSte tion wrote stating that a grant of 17Ct had been approved In respect to the board's application for a grant for equipment for the engineering classes at the school.
