A PRIVATE BALL.

I Mrs F. IT. Pyne, who recently reiturned to Christcuureh after several years' absence in England, entertained a large circle of town and country I friends at an extremely well-planned and happily-carried-out dance last i evening. It was given at her temporary residence on Park Terrace (Mr and Mrs H. I>. Aeland's house), which, with its spacious rooms, lends itself particularly j well to entertaining on a large scale. Spring flowers were used in qiiantities in the decorations, combined with I amber-coloured artificial chrysanthemums, supper being served in a big marquee. Here the decorations were carried out mainly in daffodils. Music for the dancing was supplied 'by Miss B. Macdonald's full orchestra, j extras being contributed by various of | the guests present. ,Mrs Pyne wore an ! elegant gown of silver-coloured charmeuse, softened with georgette, and worn with a pretty wrap of ostrich feathers in a soft brown shade; Miss Pyne was in pale pink liberty satin, I with an orchid-coloured sash. Miss jMona Pyne, white and gold gown, and Miss Jocelyn Pyne, white tulle, the j skirt made with narrow flounces comiug from the waist to the hem. Amongst those present were:—Mr and j Mis Win.
