SWIMMING.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The Council of the New Zealand Amafrtn?' Swimming Association met last evening, when tjiere were present—Messrs J. B. Buchanan {Nelson), in the chair, C. Atkinson (South Auckland), .1. Tooniey (Cante*bury), 11. McD. Vincent (Hawke's Bay), B. O'Neill (Wellington), F. C. Fantliam (Westland), and V. G. Dunn (South Canterbury). It was decided to hand back the Wlgrant Shield to the Royal Life Saving Society, It being stated that the previous conditions, under which the association conducted the competition, were unsatisfactory. The United Club, which has recently been formed, wrote protesting against the action of the Canterbury Centre in deferring its application for ulllliatiott until tin: annual meeting of the centre In Oetober. As the centre had not complied with the. rules relating to applications for affiliation, it was resolved: "That the appeal be allowed, and the matter be referred back to the centre, asking it to forward the application to the council witli its recommendation."
