ARCHBISHOP MANNIX.
NO REBUKE FROM HOLY SEE A JOINT PROTEST. By Cahlr. — l'rea-i Asxoriatiou.- — OcvyrigM. (A. & N.Z.) LONDON, August 12.^ The Archbishops of Wellington, Perth. Adelaide, and Hobart, and the Bishops of Armidale, Rockhampton. Cooktown, Ballarat, Sandhurst, and Forbes, have issued a joint statement describing Archbishop Mannjx's treatment as an insult, and also as an indignity to the signatories, his brothers, and the whole Catholic body in Great Britain and Australia. They add that Archbishop Mannix is regarded in Australia as a leader of democratic thought and they deny that Archbishop Mannix has received any manner of rebuke from the Holy See.
