A PRIVATE BALL.

Mrs F. IT. Pyne, who recently returned to Christcliureh after several years' absence in England, entertained a large circle pt town and country friends at an extremely well-planned and liappily-carried-out dance last evening. It was given at her temporary residence on Park Terrace (Mr and Mrs 11. D. Ac-land's house), which, with its spacious rooms, lends itself particularly well to entertaining on a large scale. Spring flowers were used in quantities in the decorations, combined with amber-coloured artificial chrysanthemums, supper being served in a big marquee. Here the decorations were carried out mainly in daffodils.

Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss B. Macdonald \s full orchestra, extras being contributed by various of the guests present. Mrs Pyne wore an elegant gown of silver-coloured eharmeuse, softened with georgette, and worn with a pretty wrap of ostrich feathers in a soft brown shade; Miss Pyne was in pale pink liberty satin, with an orchid-coloured sash.
