LAWLESS IRELAND.
DEATH OF A PRIEST. EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST. Bu Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. (A. & N.Z.) DUNLIN, Aug. 12. A telegram from Belfast states that at the inquest on a priest killed by a volley fired by soldiers while he was walking in the corridor of '■ Clonard Monastery, a verdict was returned that the firing was entirely unnecessary to suppress the riots, and was not provoked bv anyone within the monastery. The jury' added that the soldiers who fired should have been called io give evidence at the inquest. The Rector gave evidence that when he heard the bullets spattering on. the monastery walls he called the brethren together. Father Morgan did not respond, and was found dead in the upper corridor. The Rector, approaching with the holy oils to anoint the body, hail a miraculous escape. The firing was repeated, and a bullet passed through the face of the body, which was subsequently dragged from the windows. The brethren were terrified at the continued tiring, and asked the Rector to give them the last rites preparing them for death.
