SPARROW SHOOTING MATCH.

» A sparrow match was shot off at the Christchurch Gun Club's grounds at Sockburn yesterday. The shoot was a handicap one, 10 birds, and the prize was a trophy valued at £5, donated by the Christchurch Club, as well as the whole of the sweepstake money. A good contest took place, the birds being good and shooting being made difficult by the wind. There were 22 entrants, including visitors from other parts of New Zealand, in the principal event:—E. D. McLachlan (Masterton) 20yds, G. L. Winger (Auckland) 16yds, J. Pilcher (North Canterbury) 20yds -and E. Lansdale (Southland) 18yds, shot nine out of a possible 10 birds, and divided £22. In the shoot-off for the trophy, Winger and Lansdale missed their first bird, and a keen contest between McLachlan and Pilcher resulted in Pilcher securing the trophy on the eighth round. Eighteen shooters came forward for a £1 sweepstake, which resulted in E. Lansdale 19yds and T. Pilcher 20yds dividing. E. F. Stead 2. r >yds won a third £1 sweepstake. A o/- sweep, Avon by E. Lansdale 19yds and H. Clinch (Auckland) 19yds, concluded the shooting.
