QUEENSLAND STATE INDUSTRIES ARE THEY FAILURES? Nationalist politicians declare that the business ventures of the QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT are failures. The official figures issued by the Trades Commission show quite the reverse. The figures of the year ended June 30, 1919, were:—Butchers' shops, profit of £63,998 0/4; saw-mills, profit of £3156 6/2; stations, profit, £43,975 3/10; railway refreshment rooms, profit, £9336 11/7; hotel profit, £l2O 1/2; produce agency, profit, £1052 10/-. Total, £94,638 13/1. Deducting the loss on the State Fish Shop of £8537 4/7, this left a total net profit for the year of £86,102 8/6. The Nationalist Government in NEW SOUTH WALES loses more than twice as much on its fish shops. The accumulated profits on QUEENSLAND STATE enterprises since their inception were:—Butchers' shops, £94,968 14/10; State stations, £157,214 5/6; railway refreshment rooms, £21,659 7/4; hotel, £1263 17/8; produce agency, £1223 19/7. Total £276,329 14/11. Deducting accumulated net losses of £7515 6/- on the fish supply, and £5873 11/10 on the saw-mills, there was & net accumulated profit of £262,940 17/10.
