- J HELD UP AT AUCKLAND. DISPUTE WITH OFFICERS. Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 1. Twelve of the Northern Steam Ship Company's steamers are held up in port to-day, owing to a deadlock in regard to the question of holding an early confer- j ence to discuss a new agreement between ; the owners and- the Merchant Service : Guild. The old agreement expired on' October 22, and the owners informed the ! Guild that a conference could not take place until after Christmas. The date was subsequently altered to December 15. The Guild then demanded a conference by next Friday, and, after further nego- j tiations, the Northern Company offered to meet the Guild on December 9. The ' members of the Guild are considering the I situation, and meanwhile the vessels are held up.
