NORTHERN A. & P. SHOW.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The annual show of the Northern A. and P. Association, held at Rangiora yesterday, proved a successful function. jThe weather was fine, although not as I warm as might be expected at this time iof the year. There was a largo, attendance, especially in the afternoon, and there was quite an imposing array of motor cars on the ground. , All arrangements for the show worked satisfactorily and without a hitch. The total number of entries showed an increase of 20 over last year's total of 844. Considering that the War is new over, this is not as big an increase as might have been expected, and the association has still a long way to go to get back to its pre-War totals of four figures. There was a gratifying increase in the number of horses shown, and the competition was keen. Some specially fine animals were included in the draught horse section, the Wyllie Bros, being well to the fore.. Mr Ben Ferguson also had some first-class draughts. The hunters and ponies made a fine show, and the jumping and riding events were watched with great interest by a large crowd. .

The entry of cattle, 133, was a record for a show. The Shorthorn class was exceptionally strong, and the quality of the beasts was on the whole good. The Ayrshire and Jersey breeds were not so well represented, whilst the Hol--1 steins and Guernseys were totally neI glected. Tha adverse season was reflected in the fat cattle section, only [ two beasts being shown. One of these was a very fine cow, belonging to Mr 'J, O. Coop. Experts considered it was ! one of the best of its kind that had ever ben seen on the Rangiora Show Ground. j No doubt the backward season was the cause of the drop in the number of sheep entered. Last year 123 sheep were shown whilst this year there were only 95. The Lincoln, Southdown and Ryeland breeds were not represented at all, and only one English Leicester was shown. Mr J. Stevenson was the only exhibitor of merino and half-bred sheep. Mr A. R. Turnbull had the Romney section to himself and Messrs C. H. and J. H. Ensor the Corriedale section. Some first-class sheep were shown and the average quality was good.

Although the entry of pigs was small —only nine being shown—the quality was really good for a country show. The judge of the pigs (Mr ll.'Stuart) expressed a hope that more farmers in and about the Bangiora district would exhibit pigs at future shows. Following is the prize list:— HORSES. DRAUGHTS.
