ELLESMERE.

From Our Own Correspondent. -At the Ellesmere County Council meeting on Mcaday several letters were received from the Hon. R. H. Rhodes on the subject of the site for the proposed couirty memorial and in regard to the proposed maternity* hospital for the- Ellesmere County. In connection with the memorial, Colonel Rhodes stated that the council had power to erect it upon a public road without obtaining permission from the Government. He also reported having interviewed the Minister of Public Health in regard to subsidy on moneys raised for a maternity hospital. The Minister of Public Works in a letter stated that no subsidy was payable on moneys contributed to the Hospital Board if such moneys were taken from the county fund. The correspondence in regard to the hospital was left in the chairman's hands. A meeting of the Ellesmere Athletic Club was held on Monday evening, Mr R. G. Power presiding. Matters in connection with the forthcoming Anniversary Day sports were discussed. Messrs G. M. Lochhcad and D. Muir reported the result of their conference with the Doyieston Athletic Club in regard to the proposed bicycle race, and it was decided to help in every possible way to ensure the success of the race. The proposed Soulhbridge to Sockburn roarf ■race, promoted by the Athletic and Cycling Union, was also considered, jand it was thought that the club should help if it was in a position to do so.
