CROSSING FATALITY.
CHINESE KILLED. Lim Yum, a Chinese, was killed by a train at the Selwyn Street railway crossing at 9.45 a.m. to-day. The Chinese, who is a market gardener, was proceeding south along Selwyn Street, driving a cart loaded with vegetables. A train from Rolleston to Christchurch hit Lim Yum, who apparently noticed neither the train itself nor the crossing-keeper's flag. At the last moment he tried to get across the lines in front of the train, but the engine struck the cart, dragged it along about 20 yards, and Lim Yum was thrown out on to the roadway. He was killed instantly, his body being badly smashed up. The horse was not injured, but the cart was destroyed. The body of the deceased was removed to the morgue/
