The weather conditions were ideal for training at Biccarton this morning, when a good number of horses were given their final sprints. The tracks open were the sand, tan and inside No. 7 grass. All were in good order, the last named being for fast work only. All the gallops recorded below were done on the grass track. Moorfowl and Winter Wind pleased by the way they dashed over three furlongs, both finishing very well. *

Braekenfield, alone, strode over three furlongs in 38sec. Kifanoon and Killowen were companions over a useful seven furlongs, run in lmin 32sec. Both finished well. Royal Stag was too good for his stable mate, Nightraider, in a spin over three furlongs, run in 41 sec. Braid and Mortham were on terms at the close of half a mile, run in 51sec. Mustard Pot and Amythas were together at the end of four furlongs, run in 53sec. Humbug, who has not been feeding as well as his trainer could wish this last few days, in company with Vagabond, from almost a < standing start covered three furlongs in 38sec. Humbug got a length's advantage at the jump-off, but Vagabond just caught and beat him on the post. Boyal Star, who is very well, gave Starlight a slight break, and beat him over three turlongs, ruu in 37 2-ssec, a good gallop. Desert Gold ran the first three of five furlongs in 36sec, and pulled up very well. Flight Commander and Tortrix were not doing their best to get over three furlongs in 43sec, both finishing well. Nobleman, alone, moved very scratchily for a good part of the journey when covering a mile in lmin 49sec. It is as

well to remember that this track is a little short. Bon Spee, alone, was under a good pull when covering three furlongs in 88sec. Eleus beat Fleetham over five furlongs in lmin 4 4-ssec. Both went well. Wardancer, alone, left six furlongs behind in lmin 27sec. John Barleycorn moved well when leaving four furlongs behind in 53sec, a distance that Barley Bigs covered in exactly the same -time. Kilrush moved freely when skipping over the last three of four furlongs iu 40sec. Jack Symon3 easily beat San Sebastian over four furlongs, run in 53 3-ssec. Loyal Arch, who never looked better, and carrying plenty of condition, dashed over four furlongs easily in 50 sec. She did it very well and with a good weight up. Over the distance it was the best gallop of the morning. Sedd-el-Bahr, alone, took 5-lsec to cover the same journey. Waimatao was doing his best at the close of five furlongs, the last four taking him 53 3-ssec. Gay Lad was trotted on the lead, and is very well. Onslaught was given the same exercise. Counterscarp is lame and may not start at the meeting. Yolo is still showing signs of lameness from his bruised foot, and cannot have much chance in the Cup. So far, no rider has been engaged for him. Heathercote did strong work on the sand. Mascot was working well on the sand track. Kilbrogan did strong work on the tan. Silver Link dashed over four furlongs nicely. A large number of others were worked on the sand and tan, but only steady work was required of them. Sasanof's breakdown at the A.J.C. meeting was of such a serious nature as to finish his turf career. His owner states that the gelding will in future be used as a station hack.

Contrary to expectations, the big track at Addington was in nice order this morning, and promises to be at its beat for next week's meeting. There was little fast work performed, but interest was lent to the proceedings by the presence of several visiting teams. Paul Huon was hurried along over a mile and a-half, and subsequently strode over several circuits at a useful pace. Ho marred his display by one rather bad break. Trix Pointer and Pax set off from the mile and a-quarter post, the latter being indulged with a slight lead. With a mile gone, the Cup mare had drawn right away from her companion, and finished under a good hold in a tick under 2.52. It was an attractive piece of work on Trix Pointer's part, as she was well out on the track, and was eased up over the last 50 yards. A. Pringle put in an appearance with Moneymaker and Hannah M., both of whom were given useful tasks without the straps. Moneymaker has never appeared to such advantage, and promises to run the race of his life in the Cup. He und the other members of Pringle's team are to be worked out to-morrow morning. Hannah M. also looks in improved order. Albert Cling (A. Hendriek3cn) and Sashwood (J. Henderson) were hurried along for several circuits without the straps. The former was sweating rather freely at the finish, and has evidently been having an easy time of it since racing at Oamaru. Sashwood is in great heart. Nelson Bingen, who is still sore, strode over a mile and a-half at nearly top, going evenly all through. Tommy C, looking bright and well, went freely over three circuits without the hopples. He and Albert Cling will probably be given their final work-out to-morrow morning.

Agathos (J. Cockerill) got over a mile and a-half at a solid pace, but was not out on a time-making mission. He showed plenty of brilliancy along the straights, but was steadied at all the corners.

Amongst the others to get through more or less useful tasks were: Billy Parole, Gay Wilkes, Coalfield, Young

Star Pointer,. George Hard,. Frank Tracey, Electrocute, Blazer Wilson and Dillon Eddy. At New Brighton this morning a number of horses engaged at next week's meeting were given serviceable tasks, the track being in good order. Mintson and Don Caesar were companions over two miles, the former proving an easy winner. Mintson went his first mile in 2.17, and wound up his task in 4.36 2-5, Don Caesar taking 2sec longer. The little pacer was under pressure over the last part, while Don Caesar appeared to be well beaten. Asturio went very pleasingly in casting two miles behind in 4.37, and pulled up very well. The Whip, in saddle, covered a mile nicely in 2.19, and Craibwood, who is sore, sprinted a couple of half-miles. Beta Peter was responsible for a serviceable work-out over two miles, finishing nicely. The last mile and a-half occupied 3.275. Calton strode over two miles in harness, but his exhibition was nothing out of the ordinary. Pleasant Mount reeled off two miles in nice style, and King Karri, who has never looked better, was kept to jogging. Gleaming got over a mile in harness in 2.19, pacing particularly well. Sympathy, who is in nice racing trim, was let off with an easy task, and Ariadne got through slow work. Author Dillon and John Dillon were worked out on their trainer's track yesterday afternoon. Both got through their tasks really well, and will not be required to do anything further before the meeting.

The.Metropolitan meeting will be continued at Biccarton on Monday, when the Derby Stakes will form the leading attraction. Bossini and Affectation are likely to claim the attention of backers, and'both are sure to run well. On recent form, Affectation appears to have something of a pull over Mr Greenwood's representative, but the latter is on ther improve, and may be capable of lowering the northerner's colours. Many visitors to the races will welcome.tke reinstatement of the railway service to Biccarton. The comfort of the short journey of a quarter of an hour*-coupled with the absence of dust and overcrowded tramcars, appeals to a who have missed this mode 1 : of travelling for some years. Particulars of the train services are advertised in this issue. A start will be made with the Auckland -Kacing Club's Spring Meeting to-morrow,-when the Great Northern Guineas,- Welcome Stakes and Mitchelson Gup irill form the leading attractions. TEMPLAB.
